Description
Old Fall River Road – The Old Fall River Road, sometimes referred to as “The Old Road” by park staff in Rocky Mountain National Park, was the first automobile road to penetrate the interior of the park. The road linked the east side of the park near Estes Park with Grand Lake on the west side.
My wife and I headed out on an adventure to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park early one morning in September of 2017 to spend the day together.
We had never traveled up Old Fall River Road and decided to go the back-way to the top of the pass. About half way up it began to snow as clouds moved over the peaks.
We stopped and had a small hike and lunch along a small stream. After lunch we decided to head to the top.
We rounded a switchback and took in the view. I grabbed my camera and made this one image and we continued up the mountains only to be turned around half way to the top because snow and ice had blocked the pass on the other side of the park preventing us from returning to Fort Collins from that direction.
It was a good day.
